Beware of “Vishing” Scams. With a phishing scam, the target receives an email stating that there is a problem with his or her account, and that it has been blocked. Victims are prompted to click on a link and taken to a webpage where they are asked to enter account information. The thieves collect the account and identity information from their prey through the web page.
With a vishing (voice phishing) scam, instead of an email, in most instances victims receive an auto-dialer phone call stating that their account has been blocked. Victims are then directed to a website, or to call a phone number, that prompts them to enter account and/or identity information.
LAPFCU will never contact you via auto dialer. We urge members never give out personal and financial information, including your three-digit security code, to anyone who may contact you through e-mail, telephone, voice message, text message, or mail.
