CO-OP Financial Services has notified Los Angeles Police Federal Credit Union (LAPFCU) of a telephone phishing scam that attempts to obtain cardholder information through an automated telephone service.
The fraudulent message indicates that the member’s debit card has been placed on a hold status, and that in order to activate the card, the message asks the member to call a toll-free 866-number and enter their 16-digit card number. The intent is to commit fraudulent activity against the cardholder’s account by making online purchases or duplicating a card to make in-person purchases.
LAPFCU warns to use caution when asked for your personal information and to never give any information if you are unsure or if you did not initiate the call. Please contact 877-MY-LAPFCU (877-695-2732), with any questions or concerns.
