(Los Angeles, CA, December 3, 2007) - Los Angeles Police Federal Credit Union (LAPFCU) takes it support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) seriously. In addition to having a team walk in its annual "Walk To Cure Diabetes," every year individual departments conduct in-house fundraisers on their own: baked good sales, breakfast burrito bars, banana split and smoothie socials, and raffle ticket giveaways.
As a result, this year LAPFCU successfully raised and donated $5,360, in addition to participating in a 5k walk on Nov. 4 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
"It is important to us here at LAPFCU to have a positive impact within our community and to show others that we along with the LAPD fight for important causes," said Norma Feder Dong, Vice President of Human Resources and Support Services. "JDRF is something staff here really embraces and it was exciting to see so many departments participate in the individual fundraising events."
As part of fundraising activities, the Card Services Department sold breakfast burritos; Marketing: smoothies; Member Services: banana splits; Consumer Lending: baked goods; and Human Resources and Communications: raffle tickets for prize giveaways.
According to Janet Gaspard, LAPFCU Human Resources Manager, over the past years LAPFCU has had an average of 41 walkers participate on the "Walkin' The Beat Team." Throughout the years, the organization has cumulatively raised over $20,200 to benefit JDRF.
"We chose JDRF because it's an organization that involves children and unfortunately, diabetes is a disease that connects us because we all know or have known of someone living with it," Gaspard said. "We first got involved in supporting JDRF in 2004 and we have seen staff interest and participation continue to grow over the years."
